Sustainability Principles

In None-So-Hardy Nurseries we take the long view

grow quality forests

None So Hardy (Forestry) Ltd. Sustainability Principles

Seed collections

  • Care given to all collection areas, ensuring ecosystems are not disturbed or damaged.
  • Seeds, nuts, and berries are all collected gently by hand, machinery is not used.
  • Ample fruit and berries are left unpicked at collection areas for wildlife.
  • Reproductive material gathered creates additional habitats and food sources for wildlife
  • Additional orchards established on the nursery will increase native seed supply.
  • Our existing orchards are ideal habitats for birds and vital pollinators.

Nursery production

  • Each year the nursery aims to be 100% self-sufficient with no plant imports.
  • Green cropping (oats and mustard) reduces fertilisers and provides pollinator habitats.
  • Mushroom compost prior to production is high in organic matter and enhances soils.
  • Irrigation storage tanks are fed from sustainable bored wells on the nursery.
  • Regular hand weeding keeps chemical use to a minimum and improves plant growth.
  • Transplanting machine upgrades (2021) allow unsold stock to be relined, not destroyed.
  • Poor stock culled at grading is mulched and returned to the fields as organic fertiliser.
  • All our plants will remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and clean our air.
  • Conifers will provide wood for construction and can also replace steel and concrete.
  • Our trees planted in riparian areas will improve water quality.
  • All Forests and Woodlands will create habitats for all wildlife and enhance biodiversity.
